Fixing high school admissions instead of addressing years of underprepared K-8 students is the policy equivalent of turning up the car radio to ignore a weird engine noise.
What actually happened
They pretend to see a great wrong in the low numbers of black and Hispanic students who earn admission to Stuyvesant HS, Bronx Science and so on — but refuse to address the cause, namely the tragic shortfalls in K-8 schools that leave so few of these children prepared to excel.
